Hi, I've started to use Octane with Cinema 4D - initially on my Mac BookPro with the 8mb AMD 5500M. It's obvious that Octane (when it works) can yield impressive results and I'd like to keep using it but I'm really struggling. I'm finding two major issues, firstly, crashes (lots) which I can live with to a degree but secondly I'm having problems with materials into which I've imported jpeg textures etc. I often have to animate books etc so being able apply jpegs etc to animated pages is important and I've never had any problems with it in C4D or Corona etc. I'm really struggling with it in Octane - it seems ok in simple scenes but as they get more complex everything goes screwy and the plug-in weirdly seems to 'forget' which material is assigned to which bit of geometry almost at random. (Also, after much googling I've realised that multi-shaders just don't work). I appreciate that this heavy reliance on imported graphics in materials is a bit odd but it's what I have to do! I'm now reluctantly thinking that Octane won't work for me but could I be missing something obvious?
We are working on PR4 public release for Big Sur now that it is near final.cjadams wrote:Any chance of PR3 or PR4 being able to be used on the current beta for Big Sur? Devs have 11.0.1 with is listed as an RC build. which i assume they now have finalized the one on new machines at this point.
Hi Beppe,
No, I'd not even tried to get AI denoiser to work— I'd simply assumed it wasn't available because of the CPU limitation. Because the 2013 Mac isn't really stable enough to leave rendering unattended, I've mostly been using it to work on materials.
Out of curiosity, I tried the AI denoiser a few minutes ago. It did nothing... it just didn't run at all. Set it up in the path tracing kernel as usual, but there's no denoise checkbox in the preferences, so there's nothing to run denoising with. At least it doesn't crash, but it just adds a blank render pass with the status forever stuck at 'not started.' Not really surprising, but worth trying.

At least can anyone at OTOY give us, poor plugin users, more information even if it is to say that you're struggling. It's been 4 months now…Gelert wrote:PR4 might be out before PR3 has all the plug-ins!
I keep coming to check everyday for PR3 downloads. Would really love to see them come out a little quicker after Standalone gets the updates.

Is there any progress on a C4D plugin version please? I have no idea how to use the standalone version!
