It has 256 cores so probably its just a bit faster than a GTX460 with 224 out of 336 cores currently working before cuda 3.2.
It would be a decent performer I think. If you needed a Quadro for your ordinary work or particularly 2gb its the best mac solution atm but its very expensive although not as expensive as others like the Q4800 which it would out perform.
Perhaps there will be a 580 for mac soon. This would be twice as fast for half the money I think and still 1.5gb which is ok.
Perhaps just wait a little longer to see?...

A GTX580 draws a bit more power than a GTX285 ~50W , but its the same size.
It uses a 6+8 pin connector as opposed to 2x6 pin.
Hopefully it could be used in existing boxes but I know some folk have had trouble getting power for a display card as well...

Here are two benchmarks for the Quadro 4000.
Top is stock. 1.19 megasamples, 2.28 FPS
core 475, shader 950, mem 2808

Bottom is OC. 1.38 megasamples, 2.64 FPS
core 600, shader 1200, mem 2808

These are both done using OctR 2.3 with the settings from the video.

I just installed a GTX460 OC to 775MHz so I can give you a real comparison.

The GTX 460 from factory
1.44 megasamples, 2.74 FPS

So you can see that the 4000 even overclocked is NOT faster than the 460 despite the unused core issue.
For a single card system running CAD software the 4000 is a good choice, but you won't be able to multi-task.
If you want to model and render you will need two cards.

ok proved wrong! thanks for posting the results, its fairly close though. :)
I am a little surprised but hey its 85%...or 95% oc.
Seems like its about 80% of what it could be on the basis of cores.
Not sure why really...a little more conservative or perhaps the drivers are a factor too?....

There are not many choices for mac presently.
The Quadro 4800 is basically a GTX260 but with 1.5gb and for big silly $$.
Apple lists Q4800@$1800 vs Q4000@$1100 !!

I think he waits first to see if the 580 comes?

I'd probably skip anything with a GF100 if I was buying now.
