Also, was considering just renting monthly. if I decide to go ahead and rent.. will that work? Is the setup/installation different than the demo?

So i've downloaded and installed the Octane demo to my "Plugins" folder for Cinema4D R21, but upon re-launching the "Octane" tab doesn't seem to appear nor is it in the "Extentions" tab. I've also triple checked that i do have my plugins folder location set in settings.. it's just not appearing no matter what i do. (pics attached for reference..)

Hi,
Firstly you need to upgrade C4D to R21.115 or greater, or plugin cannot be correctly loaded, please go to c4d menu Help/Check for updates.
At the moment, only the following AMD GPU are supported in OctaneX under Mac Os Catalina 10.15.6:
- Radeon Pro Vega II Duo - 412 OB*
- Radeon Pro Vega II - 206 OB
- Radeon VII - 200 OB
- 5700 XT - 170 OB
- Vega FE - ~161 OB
- Vega 64 -~148 OB
- Vega 56 - ~117 OB
- Vega 48 - 108 OB
- 5600M - 108 OB
- 5500M - 77 OB
- Vega 20 - ~50 OB
- WX9100 - ~ nd
We are expecting to have the full Metal support of AMD GPUs in the upcoming Mac Os 11 Big Sur.
Looking forward for your feedback,

I know this is probably a "you shouldn't have upgraded to the Big Sur public beta" issue, but I did upgrade and now the Metal preview doesn't work.
I'm getting this error:
Are there any tips you might know to regain Octane functionality? I know I've doubled down on Betas, but this is on a machine I only use for high intensive graphics, and Final Cut Pro, so the beta is smooth sailing otherwise.

could not pick, because we have no render threads

Hi,
my suggestion is to perform a Clean install of Catalina on an external hdd/ssd, Big Sur beta does not have the proper Apple Metal driver for running OctaneX.
My iMac has four os in it, High Sierra, Catalina, Big Sur and Win 10
ciao Beppe

Is it possible to join the beta for the Big Sur metal drivers? It's frustrated with Apple delaying Big Sur... And I can't use Octane right now

No sorry, the beta testing group is a closed group, and has been chosen by Apple several months ago.
Better to install also Catalina, Big Sur beta is not ready for production.
