In Houdini, you can use ALT+Left click over the IPR window to open the Octane native node editor including the material node graph. From it, right-clicking over the material node, you can export the material.

ahh perfect, many thanks juanjgon! overlooked that feature.
and one more thing: is there a way to preserve materialnames in Octane native editor? As i was planning to export multiple materials, preferably as kind of a batch process.

Hmm, nope, I don't think so, but I'll take a look at it.

Thanks,

On the topic of ORBX, where is the 'export orbx' button? I see it in options under my rop, but I can't seem to export an orbx and NOT render. I just want to cache my scene out to ORBX to render on RNDR.

In other apps there is a clear, export orbx button, and I've tried juggling all the toggles I could on the ROP.

Just toggle Export ORBX and Alembic files under your ROP and just render to disk. Right there in the tab you'll see "Export without render scene" turned on. Leave it like that and you'll be good.
If you are sending it to RNDR, make sure to open the ORBX you exported in standalone and check if everything is ok. You'll probably have to change the framerate to 1 in Standalone. I had a problem with that a few days ago. Exported a 900 frame(30fps) sequence from Houdini and when i imported it in Standalone, it was 21.600 frames.

Yes, it should be a matter of enabling the export option and render to disk. It is like rendering the sequence from the ROP node in your local computer, but in this case, exporting the .orbx scene.

Thanks,
