Is there any way to load vdb files in ue4 and render it in octane viewport?

you would think there would be tutorials on this but otoy doesnt roll like that.

it took me some probing here but this is how it goes:

vdb´s are loaded via octane orbx format.
you can use any dcc with an octane plugin (except ue4), or standalone to make orbx files.

import the vdb you want to port to unreal and nothing else
export the scene as orbx
import the orbx into unreal

the implementation is still problematic.
on my end, the values i choose for volume medium shader always get reset and you have to screenshot them to dial it back.
animated vdb are even worse. iirc you can only see the volume when the scene is rendered/exported.
and ofcourse any orbx files are not even visible in viewport, only through octane live viewer.

orbx is really a neat format and super useful. if you have a big mesh that unreal doesnt want to import you can use orbx for it.
you can even pack whole scenes as orbx and throw them into unreal, shaders and all intact.
nothing is without its downsides though.

good luck.
