Good evening (o;

Looking at the single-GPU OctaneBench results I see that the RTX3080 isn't twice as fast as a RTX2080TI...
although the RTX3080 has exactly double amount of CUDA cores and the same amount of RT cores...

So how come that the RTX3080 is (only) 1.6 times faster?

As I understand, Nvidia changed how they count cores. It's not a physical doubling of the cores but a change in how they cycle/process. Still if you compare 3080 to 2080 (the proper comparison) it's near 2x--quite impressive.

Okay....marketing first, as always ;-)

Well I would rather say it is closer to 50% faster (o;

Maybe we get some first results over the weekend or next week when RTX3090 arrives in peoples hands....

Not gonna swap my RTX2080Ti cards for RTX3080....no NVLink and no blower designs yet....

But when you compare price/performance this is currently the best one you can get for a single GPU setup (until 3090 comes)

It seems 3090 has a blower model(with nvlink)

Think I've seen this model as well recently...as I am for a blower card (or two) only...

Not sure if the old NVLink adapter will work..though probably getting a motherboard with wider PCIe slot distance is better
as currently my 2 RTX2080Ti cards are sitting next to each other...

Speaking of TI....never seen anything mentioned regarding a RTX30 TI model....

RTX 30's Nvlink is coming in a few days, which is different with the turing's, unfortunately
I am also the blower only type, and I am happy to see it is 2slot wide card...

Ah interesting...

For your current dual GPU setup...what PCIe slot distance do you use?
Or are they also 2 slots apart like mine?

Haven't decided yet if I should keep my old mobo with 1950X or go with the new gen AMDs....

yes they are all 2slots apart,
actually I squeezed 5 cards in the chassis: 1x2070(half length),2x2080ti,2x rtx quadro 6000

the layout of new nvlink's golden finger is already different with the 2080ti's, so...
