That means that it's hard to set a deadline on something you don't know how much time it will take to implement.
AFAIK Octane is the only renderer that runs exclusively on the GPU. That has never been done before, it's new stuff, and that's why unforeseen complications can arise. They are also working with possibly unstable beta libraries (CUDA 3.2) that are still in the working by Nvidia. Setting a deadline is just not possible, so be patient.
Also, since Nostromo and Brecht are nowhere around on the forums, and no official statement has been issued as to why, I can speculate that: they are working hard and are not allowed on the forums (v6 will come 'soon') or they are not working for refractive anymore (v6 will be late

I know what you mean, but the comparison is not that simple. It's more like if you start to work on a project with a software you don't know well - you wouldn't be able to tell when you'll be finished or you could tell only vaguely. As I said, they are making some programming breakthroughs (the MLT-like algorithm is to be implemented in v6).iljubicic wrote:I would like to talk to my clients that way too. You have to set a deadline or you will never be finished! Matej, maš klijente znaš kak je
I also can't wait for new updates, because in the current state the software is limited, and suitable only for specialised projects.

You have the right to speak this way if the V1 is announced as ready to go, but not in Beta.iljubicic wrote:Interesting. That is exactly why am I asking for deadline. This software is NOT functional, so give us a deadline! And btw. I am a refractive software's client so tell me when the goods is coming.
To talk about deadlines with an unfinished product is like talking about fishing in the sea...what promises you expect?. ( ... it's not in your hand, so respect here. )
"People need the software to be functional to use professionally."
Bullshit before a final Release!!!
Makes me real angry to see how people handle pre releases. Give something they want to see and be sure they will the whole, immediatley.

C'mon give the mystery-lady-avatared man a break
Octane is his life's baby and I am 100% confident
that he does all he can not to dissatisfy customers.
I know that cause he's put so much of his energy
on open source projects on the past and that says
a lot about his way of thinking and giving out there.
He got a strong team of people that agreed to
work under heavy pressure in order to provide us
with an innovation that is based on an still fluid
and incomplete technology (CUDA). I used Octane
in front of customers last night and I was hit with
some bugs here but still they were amazed of what
I could do with that software...
You got my positive vibes there all the way from Greece,
mystery-lady-avatared man.
