Have a look here; merged net rendering will be available in the release after 2020.2.boxoffrogs wrote:Great work guys, very happy Octane X is finally here. Regarding the net rendering. Before the beta I had the information that cross rendering between mac and pc would be possible. I have a MacPro as master and two pc slaves which does not work right now. Is this still going to happen or is this off the table now? Thanks again guys and keep up the great work.

It's great news for my work, but when i change texture of octane material, c4d crashed:
Application Specific Information:
validateMTLStorageMode:237: failed assertion `invalid storageMode (0). Must be one of MTLStorageModeManaged(1) MTLStorageModePrivate(2)'
Supposed to wait for an update?

Excellent work! It’s been a very long time coming.
I compared Octane X on Catalina using a Radeon VII
with Octane on Windows 10 using an RTX 2080 TI, rendering a simple scene based mostly on an emissive texture.
Octane X is surprisingly fast given the weaker GPU.
I noticed a gamma shift, that would have to be fixed to make it platform independent.

Also sitting on a MP 5.1 without suitable GPU. I'm interested if the AVX2 can be a problem?ronniek2 wrote:Hello!
I have a 2010 Mac Pro running Catalina 10.15.6 with a Metal supported RX580. I can't get Octane X Enterprise to load at all. It bounces in the dock for a few seconds and then doesn't do anything. The C4D plugins also just prevent C4D from loading at all...It does meet the basic specs to run, even though the video card might not be completely supported. Is this a video card issue? Shouldn't it at least load even if it's an unsupported video card? Let me know if anyone can help. thanks!

From FAQ:
What device handles AI Denoising on Octane X?
it is done using the AVX2 instructions on the Intel cores. This opens up the possibility that we can do AI denoising across multiple light passes. No firm ETA on that. Also you will need an AVX2 capable CPU, which means 2015+.
Excellent work!!!
I did a comparison render of a simple scene using an emissive texture, using a Radeon VII on macOS Catalina, and an RTX 2080 TI on Windows 10.
I'm surprised how well Octane X performs given that the Radeon VII is a much weaker card. I found some gamma shift however, shouldn't Octane X result be 100% the same?

I have been waiting Octane for Mac for about 1,5 years. Now, when it is finally here I started to hesitate - should I upgrade my iMacPro to Catalina and use installed Vega Pro 64 and buy one additional RX5700 or maybe calmly stay on my High Sierra and 2 GeForce GTX1070? To be honest, I'm quit tired of outdated OS and would very much like to move to Catalina... but if there is loss in render time and a lot of bugs in Octane X... then downgrading back to High Sierra and installing CUDA and all those other little hacks and tricks to make those GeForce cards work again seems like a work I would like to avoid.
So... is it worth it? Whats your opinion?

I stick with what you have until big Navi comes out. By then they’ll have fixed some stuff with the plugin hopefully and the new GPU will be a nice bonus.

Thanks to OTOY and Ahmed for making this happen. My experiences so far is that it's better and more stable than when I used an Nvidia card, however I am still getting regular crashes, from various actions (loading images, adding lights, editing materials etc).
Do you want me to send bug reports or are you getting enough from other users?
Thanks!
