Hi, does someone know how to install a geforce with a quadro on the same machine without having problems? I made some tests using a Quadro fx 1800 as primary card (attached to the monitor) and a gtx 460 for computing purpuses (octane rendering), but i had lots of freezing issues in the normal use whitout using them for rendering. I asked directly to nvidia support and they told me that is not reccomended and not supported from nvidia such a mix of professional and "normal" cards. What is your experience?

I'm also interested in this. I don't have a gtx card yet, and would like to learn more before spending the cash. The combo you talk of has been recommended so I would think someone has the knowledge.

I have some knowledge of this from my own Quadro+Geforce use but I no longer give forum assistance in regard of any Octane issues to either prospective or other Octane users.
Someone from Refractive will be able to answer your questions.

Hey, hypergrafica did you hear that? Pixelrush has the knowledge but he doesn't help now. Nice of him to say so wasn't it? Like I said earlier I'm interested in doing this also. I will share anything I find that is definitive. So far I have only found anecdotal stories. Haven't found anyone with direct experience and success.

I have spent many hours of my time helping other users here however it is not my responsibility to provide technical support for Refractive.
If you dont get assistance for your issue you should direct your annoyance at them.

I have a setup with a Quadro Fx 4600 and two Geforce Gtx 470. You will need to install the dev drivers from here to make it work: http://developer.nvidia.com/object/cuda ... it_rc.html
Or you connect your screen to one of the cards, install the appropriate drivers, reboot and connect you screen to the second card, install appropriate drivers and reboot and change back to the card you want to use for the display. This works both under Xp and 7.
Hope this helps.

Hi, i think that this issue of having a mixed cards system is a crucial and very interesting. Chris, you said that i have to install latest cuda drivers too? My problems with video freezing are not directly related with using octane but i have serious problems of stability randomly in the normal day use. I will try to do the install following your instructions. When i installed the GTX 460 i simply, added the card with the proper drivers. For updating the quadro the system required me to remove the fermi. After the update i experienced the first video freeze issues. I bought the second card because several people had a system like mine (i read in the forum): it wold be interesting to know their experiences. I read that pixelrush uses modded drivers (guru3D?): could it be a possible solution? I understand you. I only want to know if you have problems

This is a working combination of Quadro and GeForce.
Software:
Win7 x64
Octane 2.3
Rhino v5 x64 WIP 11/9/10
Hardware:
PNY Quadro 4000, driver 259.81 : Installed first by itself.
Asus ENGTX 460 DirectCU Top (775MHz), driver 260.99 : Installed second by itself after removing the Quadro.
After installing both drivers the system was setup with the monitor connected to the Quadro 4000 and the GTX 460 installed without a monitor connection. Nvidia Control panel system topology correctly detects and reports both cards. Octane detects both cards and allowed me to switch the active card to the GTX 460 and the inactive card to the Quadro 4000. I am now able to work in Rhino and Octane simultaneously. I have not tried rendering with both cards active.
Hope that helps.
