Any news?

(Excitement driven question, not a whinge!)

RC2 went out two days ago. RC3 this week with a few more bug fixes. Release date will be locked this week. Will update you all on release date once I can share. I do think posting at least a bit of info is better than none IMO, but that’s just me. Wouldn’t be sharing anything if it wasn’t imminent.

Seconded. So we'll at least have a release date this week – I just hope the date isn't too far off.

He said release date will be locked this week - might not be announced for a month!

But RC is release candidate. Do they have to let this thing ripen for a bit or what?

I think the concern for both Otoy and for Redshift3d is that.. if a beta happens and is dog slow or in a unfinished crashy state.. that the PR nightmare will be impossible to deal with and will make APPLE look bad as well.

Can you imagine the windows weenies totally roasting us over how badly something performs or how their Nvidia cards totally put the mac to shame.

This i think we want to avoid from an OPTIX point of view LOL pun intended!

We as experienced users and beta testers know that a beta is unfinished and more speed and tweaks is part of that process but if the general public gets the "perception of "something sucks" then from a company POV thats a marketing nightmare of a hole to crawl out of.

SO i think both companies want to put fwd the most polished and optimized beta they can to avoid this situation.

Just my $.02

Yeah, good point.
I hope it will be good and not so much slower than windows for the average user.

Well it is just a guess.. but putting their best foot fwd to bring it up to par.. VIDEO CARDS depending... "WHERE IS BIG NAVI"... Come on AMD get the lead out! - I think were waiting for various pieces to allign.. APPLE OTOY/RS as well as AMD cards to take on the 3xxx series from Nvidia. This kind of all needs to happen at once i think.
