I'm trying out fog for the first time and I'm getting a weird result when I use the AI Denosier on fog created with HDRI enviornment tag. It radically changes the images when it denoisers, and I figure it's coming from denoising the fog. Is this normal?
I'm on:
Octane 2020.1.3-R2
Cinema R21.207
Windows 10 2004
Different Result with AI Denoiser

I did some more troubleshooting and it seems like the issue only happens with a specular material, that's with and without using scattering medium. I've tried increasing step length of the fog and it helps, but I'm still getting slightly different results with the denoiser, like it crushes some of the highlights.
Are you compressing highlights? From what I remember, linear passes don't get the highlight compression, it only works on sRGB passes. Maybe that's your issue?
I always get a tiny tiny difference in looks on the denoiser pass (after adjusting the gamma), but not enough to ruin the scene. Only when I render with highlight compression, that's when the difference is big.
