Octane Render will randomly not save new materials to the scene. I have created three separate scenes. This issue occurred with ALL three of them.

Here are the steps I've done with the latest scene.
  • I create a scene in Daz Studio. (Genesis 2 Female with hair)
I create materials for some of the surfaces. (The hair, eyes)
I save the scene and close DS.
I open DS and load my scene.
I add a new material for the torso.
I save the scene and close DS.
I open DS and load my scene.
The torso material is NOT in the scene.
    I close DS.
    I delete the "OctaneRender_settings.oczdb"
I open DS and load my scene.
I add a new material for the torso, again.
I save and close the scene.
I open DS and load my scene.
The torso material is NOT in the scene, AGAIN.
    I delete the "OctaneRender_settings.oczdb"
I try adding the any new materials to the scene. It's still not saving them.
This issue majorly aggravates me. I'm trying not to rant because that never helps. But, This is a serious bug.

Here are the version numbers:
OS: Windows 7 Pro

"Load OctaneRender materials from .duf user presets" has been checked this entire time.

The plugin is not saving the materials all the time.

I suggest trying solution 3 then.

As I said in my first post, I have been deleting the "OctaneRender_settings.oczdb" file. And it's still not saving new materials.

Hi Willdial,

Can you check if after adding the Torso materials, if you use the Daz Studio Save Material option and save it in your Presets->Materials, then after closing and reopening the scene if you double click the saved Torso material from the Preset->Materials to reapply, does it survive the next closing and opening of the scene ? You may also want to check the Daz Studio Logs (Help->Trouble shooting->Logs) as well as the Octane Logs (Octane->System Tab) to see if is has anything regarding the material load issue

Worse come to worse you will probably need to start with a fresh scene. Maybe something is corrupted in the scene file.

Rajib,

I tried what you suggested. I setup a torso material and linked it to the torso surface. Then I saved a Material Preset file. I saved my scene and closed DS.
When I opened my scene, the torso material is not there. I applied my save material preset file and the torso material is not there.

It's like the Octane plugin is no longer saving materials in the scene.

The octane log just as plugin started and ended entries.

Looks like something got corrupted. I would suggest starting with a new scene in this case or maybe just delete the G2F character, save the scene and then load it again and then load a new G2F character. After that you can modify the torso texture on the newly loaded G2F and see if that sticks.

Btw. If the Octane Viewport is on and you apply the saved material preset does it show the torso material correctly in the render ? Could you take a screenshot of the materials tab with the G2F's Torso selected and also the Octane vVewport. Will help to confirm if it looks like some corruption.

One more thing, once you load the new G2F (same) character, if you still get the same issue, can you try another G2F character in your Library ? Just want to see if it might be something to do with that character's materials and how the plugin is coveting them.

Rajib,

I'll try today with a new scene.

I have noticed that when a scene goes wrong, I have trouble changing textures. I select a different file for an RGB or Grey image. The UI still shows the old image. I have to select the new file again before the UI will show it. When I open the Viewport, sometimes the old image is being used in the render.

Rajib,

Your suggestion of creating a new scene helped identify the issue.

I created new materials one at time to find what caused the file to be corrupted. The auto-materials worked fine. The manually created materials didn't cause problems.
When I imported an obx file, the plugin stopped saving new materials or changing existing materials. I repeated the steps again and got the same results.

The obx is a file I created in the Poser Octane plugin (4.05). I wanted to bring over my materials. For some reason, the Daz Octane plugin has trouble with this obx files.

Again thank you for your help.
