Octane Standalone only renders lossless image sequences; it's assumed that you'll be doing at least some kind of post processing on your animations and will want the best quality source files to work with. There are several free utilities out there for quickly loading and playing image sequences, though, so you don't have to re-render/compile to some lossy codec to view your work. One option is DJV. It's free, open source, and cross platform.

Otherwise, you'll need to pull the sequences in to another aplication or utility to compress and encode the images into a video format.
