HI,
almost 90% of the times using a gradient ( and I guess any other c4d native ) shader for i.e to mix two materials cause a crash.
Simply replacing the file "c4dOctane-R21.xdl64" with the 2019.1.4 version ( leaving libs folder of 2015.1.5 r3 ) fix the issue.
Windows 10
3 Graphics card:
- 2 Nvidia 1080ti
- 1 Nvidia 2060RTX
32gb of memory
CPU i7 8700k
Thank you!

Hi,
c4d native shaders are a pain in the ..., since they need to be auto backed into textures to be used into c4doctane materials, and this can give a lot of issues, especially in mid/complex scenes.
In v2020.1-RC2 there is a new option for auto converting c4 shaders into OSL Octane nodes, that is far more stable and productive.
Currently it works for C4D Noise and Gradient nodes, but the support for more shaders is planned:

For example, the Layer shader can be already replaced with the OSL layer.osl node version:

Here you can find latest v2020.1-RC2.R4:
