I have a question regarding the difference in specularity on different materials. Say i have these Materials:
1) Glossy Material
2) Diffuse Material + Specular Layer
3) Universal Material with specular setting
4) Universal Material with coating
If i applied the same settings for specular (same IOR, roughness etc.) to these materials would the final material be the same in every case?
And is there a difference between specular and coating on universal materials?
Thanks

I forgot to ask another thing, sorry.face_off wrote:These are general Octane questions, so I suggest posting them in the general Octane forums here.

I tried making a template material that takes the spec map from the applied material but it doesnt seem to work no matter what option i choose. I works fine with bump and normal maps tho.
This sounds like a bug. I will add it to the TODO list.I tried making a template material that takes the spec map from the applied material but it doesnt seem to work no matter what option i choose. I works fine with bump and normal maps tho.

Ok so i tried it with all possible maps to see what works and what not:
Diffuse, Bump, Normal and Displacement Maps work with Auto-Material conversion and with templating.
Cutout-opacity only works with Auto-Material, does not work with templating.
Spec and Subsurface Maps dont seem to work at all for me.
Thanks for adding it to the TODO list.

I tried opacity again and it worked this time. But i chose the cutout opacity the first time too, dont know why it didnt work the first time.Sorel wrote:For the cutout opacity to work with templating, make sure you select cutout opacity and not regular opacity. Specular doesn't work if templating from an iray setup material because that surface is named something else.
Is the SSS maps still dont work for me
I have put on the DOTO list to double check all the templating functions, which will include getting specular and roughness working.Kanne wrote:Templating for specular and roughness dosn't work for me too in an iray setup.
@face_off is it possible to add this to the plugin?
