This has been possible for some time, as a fallback and it still would give a large surface areas to test with until we can ship the OSL pieces for 10.15.5. Some scenes actually can run without issues, while others have cherkboard textures in place of the OSL/procedural, but otherwise render fine
I would absolutely test this.

I just want to get over to Catalina because I have to dual-boot to us Unreal Engine because it needs a newer version of Xcode that is not available in High Sierra... I'm tired of being so far behind!!!!!

I agree. I too am tired of high sierra. Should be able to use multiple gpus’s to test. Already on “enterprise sub”

High Sierra?? Lucky dog, you. We're still mostly on Sierra, but will finally make the transition to High Sierra for Octane 2020, probably some time late this year. When we finally make the jump to 10.15.x for an AMD sea change some time in 2021, it will be a bit of a shock!

This may have been answered in other posts but searching did not reveal anything obvious for me.

Running High Sierra and able to see the two GTX 1080’s via eGPU... but obviously not a RTX 2060 vi eGPU.

I understand that the new Octane X will allow me to run Octane Render on AMD cards on OSX Catalina...

Will I lose the ability to run Nvidia cards on Catalina with new Octane?
If not... can I run Nvidia RTX cards on Catalina with Octane X

I’f Yes to either one of the above... will Latest R2 on windows still see the mac and its slaves.

Many thanks

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere and for so many darn questions.... I have figured out work around for so long... I’m hesitant to give it all up just to run AMD on my laptop :>))

Depending on the answer to above I’d love to upgrade to Catalina beta and give this a whirl knowing its not production ready

Under Catalina, there are no NVIDIA drivers, so you will lose the ability to use any NVIDIA cards. As I understand it, though, you should be able to run those NVIDIA cards on your Windows Octane machine just fine, and Windows Octane should continue to play nice with Mac AMD Octane of the same version, including Network Rendering (this impresses the hell out of me if it works), at least according to a previous post by Goldorak.

You can always use an external drive clone and update it to Catalina. Keep your main os as high sierra. Then dual boot for testing

High Sierra is the last macOS that has NVIDIA driver and no RTX drivers. If you want use NVIDIA you have to stay on High Sierra. The key to Octane X is GPUs that support Metal.
