Hey,

I'm having a weird problem that my C4D client freezes as soon as I'm creating a shader inside c4d native layer shader. Even if it's not in a octane shader.
I can create a new file, create a c4d native material, create a layer shader, put what ever shader inside it and the client will freeze. When deleting the octane plugin folder and trying it again it works perfectly fine. 100% reproducable on my system.
Any ideas? :)

Thanks!

Surely it causes random crashes. Do not use these and try octane nodes.

Hey Ahmet, thanks for you swifty reply.
I'm aware it tends to cause crashes when using it inside octane materials but my client freezes 100% even if I'm not doing anything octane related inside c4d.
So for example I'm creating a fresh c4d file, no octane render settings, no octane materials what so ever. I create a c4d native material create a layer shader, put in any other shader and the c4d client crashes.
Not random it's 100%.

After deleting the octane plugin folder the issue doesn't occur anymore.

This can be fixed by not having your Node editor docked in c4d. It's a weird one, but the node editor being docked can wreak some havoc in general. I noticed that c4d wouldn't fully quit by x-ing out / exiting the program, I'd have to end the process via task manager every time.... also because of the node editor.

If ever I'm having weird trouble with native c4d features, this is the first place I look.

Hope that helps someone!

I had the same problem. Every time I tried to create a native layered shader I would get an Octane error and Cinema 4D would crash or freeze. This was 100% consistent.

The only thing that fixed this for me was switching to the 'Standard' layout (Window > Customization > Layouts > Standard). Maybe the other layouts work too, but I've only tested 'Standard'. Undocking the Node Editor didn't fix the problem for me, but led me to try switching the layouts to one of Maxon's defaults (thank you @jameskowalski). It seems my custom layout was causing the problem.
