Hi all,
I have a problem. Octane crashes everytime it's suposed to start rendering. when i import a mesh node, when i select a material node or a material on livedb.
I was thinking that my windows and drivers are the problem. I had Vista business 64. Now i did a clean new win 7 ultimate install with devdriver 3.1 257.21 - same problem (also tried 260, sweeped, installed 257 no result, sweeped again, installed back 260.61..).
When i started with octane i had a quadro 1700. i replaced it with a GTX465. It was amazing... until it stoped working after a few weeks. same crash, no error message (on 22b, 23pre all octane versions, several driver versions....). i put the blame on windows vista. Now i have the same problem in brand new installed windows 7 ultimate - octane being the first app started, nothing except win updates installed before. So i ask for help... :?
My config:
intel S5000xvn, 2 xeon 5335, 4gb DDR2 FBDIMM, sas raid, POV geforce GTX465 (352cores idleing... cuda 3.1 260.61), 2 iiyama prolite b2403ws (1920x1200).

Thanks.

Possibly a hardware defect ie early failure.
Try running this test - just the Cuda one the Directx test is broken - to see if a cuda app runs ok

or perhaps a power supply issue. the card isnt overclocked is it? if so underclock a little

Thanks for the sugestion.
I did the video mem test - directx, opengl. cuda test didn't worked. opengl test said it's all ok

the directx test result:

Changing video mode to 640x480x16...OK
[21.10.2010 20:26:00] Test started for "Primary Display Driver (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 465)"...
Trying 16bpp RGB:565 mode...OK
TEST FAIL (Code: 8876017C)
Trying 16bpp RGB:555 mode...OK
TEST FAIL (Code: 8876017C)
Trying 16bpp BGR:565 mode...NOT SUPPORTED (Code: 80004001)
Trying 32bpp RGB:888 mode...OK
TEST FAIL (Code: 8876017C)
Trying 32bpp BGR:888 mode...NOT SUPPORTED (Code: 80004001)
NO PASS COMPLETED

the cuda :

Changing video mode to 640x480x16...OK
[21.10.2010 20:29:45] Test started for "GeForce GTX 465"...
Preparing CUDA...Module load error: 300
NO PASS COMPLETED

The card isn't overclocked, the PSU is 1000w server grade so it must be the video card. I'll replace it with my old quadro 1700 and see if octane will run.
I'll be back with the result

edit: i think the GTX is going back for warranty. octane works fine with the quadro installed (at least crawls fine on 32 cuda v1 cores)

Try uninstalling the drivers and restart. Let Win7 install the default Cuda driver. Do not download the latest. See if it works.

just follow the first part of this tutorial video: http://www.refractivesoftware.com/demotutorial.html

it's important to install the *right* versions of drivers and cuda toolkit (for linux or mac)
