I have a fairly simple dynamics simulation, 3 rigid bodies, a collider floor and a cloth. The sequence is 1200 frames long. Every time I render it to an image sequence, it does about 200 frames and then completely crashes my mac.

What can I do? I'm using OSX 10.13.6, c4d r21 and Octane 2020.1_XB2_R2

I have rendered the sequence easily using the standard renderer.

Just tried to bake the dynamics so I can render the next 200 frames, and Octane crashed again.

So observing activity monitor on my mac, I can see that the memory c4d is using is creeping up as every frame is rendered, it obviously gets to the limit of my RAM which is 64GB, and crashes the mac. Why does this happen? Why isn't Octane just using the GPU?

Of course Octane has to use RAM to prepare several things but I don't think it's Octane issue. But you can't find help without sharing useful information. First try with standard render to see RAM usage.

It might be because a texture in the scene is a movie file, is it the way c4d or Octane handles those?

What's file format? Octane doesn't support well any video file.

Yes, I should have used an image sequence rather than a .mov file, I don't think it's Octanes fault. Managed to render the sequence out 100 frames at a time. I'll do it differently next time.
