Just a quick, minimalist test render with a thrown together Sketchup 8 model lit by two mesh emitter panels. The vase is from the Google Warehouse. The floor is an Arroway texture - I thought the files might be a bit big, but I'm only using the one.
This rendered for 50 minutes, but it was clean long before that. Very impressive considering there's depth of field effects. I'm going to enjoy using this renderer a lot
Another view of this scene, with a couple of extra items from the Google Warehouse added. I've posted 3 versions showing the render progress at different times on a GTX 260 1gb.
What's really impressed me (other than the time saving over getting this quality of render out of Vue) is how good things look even with a quick 'yep, that'll about do it' slinging around of the material settings. Having spent hours trying to get these Arroway floors to render nicely in Vue this is a real revalation. The speed of feedback is staggering, you get a feel for the scene in seconds - all the extra render time is refinement. Compared to a CPU unbiased render engine like Kerkythea it's very liberating.
Octane reported this scene as 23404 triangles with 221.5mb of memory used. The floor texture is 6000 x 6000 px (x3, the bump and specular are separate maps). I was going to let it render longer but Octane hung when after I paused to save the last screen.
First off, the scene at 10 minutes, 29 seconds.
