Hi Guy,
in order to obtain clarification, Octane SDK is developed by SDK team and then there are plugin developers who use Octane SDK. All plugins using the same SDK.
Therefore plugin developers updateSDK to plugins while working on plugins. They must therefore work on two sides at the same time and sometimes it creates some issues, as during this period introducing new SDK.
Said that, 3dsmax developers are working on Railclone, ForestPack and PhoenixFD. A new Vray converter is being developed, I don't know when it will be ready, but Otoy is involved in having an efficient vray converter asap.

There are plenty of softs that convert corona to vray, but even so, vray and corona are very similar, the logic is that soon after comes a Corona converter.
Having a working V-ray is a big deal.
Support people had already reported this, but it's always good to have some more confirmation.paride4331 wrote:Hi Guy,

I understand that, but I've particularly taken a shock. I tested octane for 1 month as well as Fstorm and although Fstorm is much simpler I opted for Octane because of the structure, development capability, it's a more solid company and of course, a great engine render. I couldn't believe I used V-ray for so long.
But soon after I decided for Octane, investments were made, came a new version 8.11 I think, my God, cost me 2 weeks of work, a lot of stress.
None of these softares (?.. one maybe and a script that stopped working ) are really spot on and definitely our Vray internal material converter need lots of work , Ftstorm converts Vray and Corona without a glitch, I mean there may be some adjustments to do as well but ....samsue wrote:justix wrote:Still leaving Corona materials out?...paride4331 wrote:Hi Guy,

Hi Justix,
Octane PBR universal material is very advanced tool, versatile and high potential, different from a simple biased material or a vray-like material.
Easy way is not always winning.

it's true, the Universal Material is quite impressive, now with new material layer ...paride4331 wrote:Hi Justix,

I think Octane's materials system is much more advanced and has those little things that make the difference.
But in my opinion the Material Converter was one of the main reasons that Otoy's competitor became so popular. And of course... for Otoy suing them.

Yes, in fact as I told, a new Vray converter is being developed.samsue wrote:it's true, the Universal Material is quite impressive, now with new material layer ...paride4331 wrote:Hi Justix,

Converters are overrated and rarely used after awhile when you have an extensive material library. 99% of bought models have terrible materials, I don't think i ever used any store bought asset with the native materials except. And as far as an argument that Octanes competitive is doing so good is because of the converter is absurd, big number of their clients are VFX studios and they offer a huge control over lighting and overrides that Octane lacks not because of the converter.
Stop being lazy and spend some time to make your materials look good instead of using shortcuts and producing subpar work. There are bigger issues with Octane right now than the converter like stability, SSS, crappy spot light, lack of directional lights that's not the sun. . .

It depends where you buy, but that's not the point, of course having a large library of materials helps a lot, but in ArchiViz where you're practically forced to use third-party assets for cost benefit, you end up having to readjust the materials.Converters are overrated and rarely used after awhile when you have an extensive material library. 99% of bought models have terrible materials, I don't think i ever used any store bought asset with the native materials except.
In the ArchiViz sector, for sure it is one of the reasons, any company will go for it on the scale, you have to buy these assets, in v-ray or corona and then adapt to another engine. By what engine would you get? The fastest way to do that. ANALYZING ONLY THIS ARGUMENTAnd as far as an argument that Octanes competitive is doing so good is because of the converter is absurd, big number of their clients are VFX studios
If it was lazy, I'd have bought Ftorm or continued with Corona or Vray. It's not lazy, you have to analyze the cost of hours for certain things, I'd love to spend 1 month making a scene, but have to be ready instead in 3 days. And for me the converter is a help so that I don't have to reorganize everything alone, of course I'll have to change the settings to make it acceptable.Stop being lazy and spend some time to make your materials look good instead of using shortcuts and producing subpar work
