Hi everyone,

Probably not in the good topic.

So i bought a new Mac Pro Westemere 2,4Ghz on septembre. I took the ATI 5770 graphic card in it.
Just after this, i discovered Octane and it is the render i was looking for, but it's not working with ATI right now and probably for a long time.
So, i'm thinking about buying a Nvidia GTX 480 for my Mac Pro. I read in some forums that i could use it with boot camp and windows 7 that a way to use Octane but is there another way excepting buying a Nvidia card for 1500 €?
I'm open on every tricks or advises.

Thank you
Cheers,
Nicolas

I think that the unfortunate answer is that you must use a graphics card that is supported officially by Mac OSX if you want to use it. If you plan to boot only into Windows, then it might work...

Win7 32| GTX 260 | Athlon X2 5000+ BE | 2 GB

Thank you for the answer.

I was thinking, if i put a graphic card for Windows boot and i want to start sometimes on OsX, is it going to make the mess? Do you know?

Cheers,
Nicolas

So maybe someone can tell me that, i have an ATI 5770, if i buy a Nvidia GTX 285 mac edition, do i have to take of the ATI or no?
Is it possible to have 2 Nvidia GTX 285 working together on my Mac Pro 2010?

Cheers

Hi Colas,
Sorry I don't know the new series of ATI card for Mac Pro.
The more easy solution is a GT120 for display and a GTX 285 for octane, it's possible to have 2x 285 but you have to mess up the Mac Pro for getting the extra power for the second card. There are two solution, putting an extra PSU in the second DVD bay or deinstall all the DVDs and take the extra power from them :(
look at this old post for the workaround at the end of the page:

It works good and smoothly but i's not fast :D
under osx there is also the cuda 32bit limit so exporting from c4d is not very quickly.
anyway It's much faster then any other CPU render engine that I've used with my mac pro :D

Thank you,

I think i'm going to wait 'till November to see if Nvidia do something for Mac users (and not to much expensive) if not i'll do your trick, it seems a good one.

Ok, thank you Bepeg4D,

I bought the two graphic cards, now i have to buy my Octane licence.

Sorry to disturb you once again, but do i have to connect something between the 2 cards?
I'm not good at all for graphic cards....

Cheers,
Nicolas
