Hello guys,

i have a question for you, hoping some of you work with Blender 2.80 and Octane on Mac.
I do have a weird crash as soon as i put a textured environment and preview render with Octane, it renders immediately BUT, if i orbit the camera, the render does not refresh, i see only the objects highlighted boundaries updating, but not the render. If i then for example change preview to shading i see the spinning wheel and i have to force quit.
Some other time instead it seems to be working, i have the suspicion it has to do with the procedure i follow before rendering, but it's pretty confusing as of now.
I read also about needing to create and extra camera for Octane to work, and i did it, but still it crashes.
I'm on a Mac Pro with High Sierra and a Geforce 1080 TI with proper Nvidia drivers.

Hope some of you guys can help,
cheers

Hi Marco,

Looks like a bug. I've already reported this, but I did not know what is causing this. Now I'm sure it happens when using scene camera.
It happens regardless what scene you create and what environment you set. It happens when you look through active camera and when rotating/moving it.

Hi J.C.
thanks for replying.
Yes there's something weird with the Mac version and this behaviour, however i suggest you to do this test,
i removed my prefs completely to start fresh and actually i do not, for the moment, have this problem anymore.
It seems i had set some personal preferences in the outliner that might have created a conflict. I had a collection called GEO, another LIGHTRIG and another one for CAMERAs. When i disabled this (by removing the prefs) i now do not see this bug happening. I then copied all the addons / scripts over to the new folder and, FOR THE MOMENT :), it all seems to work fine.
Hope this can be of help,
cheers

Hello J.C.
i have to unfortunately update my previous comment after playing around with it more.
While removing prefs and resetting the startup file solved the problem with the camera and i can orbit and see the update, that was temporary.
I stumbled again in a similar situation with an imported .abc camera.
So in any case there is a problem under Mac with this version of Octane for Blender.
If anyone else encounters the same problem and has some more info please share.
thanks

marco

Developers need a (possibly simple) scene and precise steps reproducing the issue so they can fix it.

Please send it as soon as you meet the issue again.

Thanks!

Here is the simple scene. Try to move or rotate the camera . The viewport will freeze and Blender needs to be killed and restarted to make it work again.
