OK, so I just did a multi-update (probably a bad idea):

DAZ Studio from 4.10 to 4.11
Octane Plugin from 4.1.1.43 to 4.4.0.44
And NVIDIA drivers from 417.71 to 430.86

Before the update everything worked just fine.

Now all seems to work fine, except for the face material of the RedSpec face material for the Victoria 4 character - which now looks like the image attached (PMC kernel used (not using any other)).

Not sure what causes it. However, it breaks all my saved scenes and face material presets based on this material.

If I use the V4 character that is using surfaces that are based on the material mixes from RedSpec G8 then all is fine.

Any clue what can be causing the problem?

I have the very same problem with you, and I don't know what caused it, but at least I've found a way to "fix" it.
It seems there's a glitch on the material/nodegraph editor that causes the problems.
You can look at the "first material/material 1" node/section. And then see the "texture 2 / RGB image" section.
It's empty. So you just enter the specific texture there (usually the face texture). And then set the power to RGB and choose the white colour like usual.
I hope it can help you.
(or better you have found a better solution/fix) :)

As a related FYI, I just picked up the M4/V4 shaders and using them with Octane 2018.1.3.44 I'm seeing this effect with all material zones. It does not seem to be automatically translating the maps, and adding them in manually solves the problem but is tedious. Also, if you look in the NGE all the nodes are present but they are visually unlinked. Everything behaves like they are linked, but they are not showing up in the node graph as being linked.

Replacing all active maps is not fixing this issue?
I haven't used V4 in a while, so my best guess at this point is, that there might be entries in your material filter box in the Settings tab of your OctaneRender for DAZ Studio tab.
Please refer to the quick-start-guide that comes with the plug-in, where this issue is reference in.
