How can I add a texture to a volumetric Spectron light so I can use it as a gobo to break up the light?

Also - can I just check, how should I be loading in a Spectron light? I currently only see the "Octane Spot Light" but by default it appears to have a scattering medium attached so that it emits fog. Is this actually using the Spectron tech or is this just the regular fog tech (just wondering how I get the fastest volumetric lights)?
