I just wanted to update everyone that we are aware of the server issue which affects Octane from working properly.

Thank you for your patience while we work on getting this resolved in a timely manner.

Sincerely:

Phil

EDIT: Radiance: Moved to beta forum and added maintenance reasons and downtime, plus expansion works.

this is quite a pain, but now i now why its not working, i know its not me. Phew!

I would like to suggest tho, who ever sorts out them electronic auto emails that send you directions on how and where to download Octane, is very misleading. I got given 2 bits of information, the first was to download a very old version the second after, i emailed about a licence, to download a newer one! To be honest, it isnt great customer service!

and yes, you indeed need a back up service! :x

I agree they do need to get their act together a bit better at the moment.
Not sure whats going on behind the scenes but someone from Refractive needs to be on active duty answering posts, emails etc. promptly rather than relying on forum users to help out.
Really they should have announced beforehand that they will be moving and to expect some disruption to services and support or whatever.
I hope the server wont be down for beta more than a few hours but....

Yes, unless this was unexpected some kind of notice prior of an outage would be appreciated...

To be honest, LiveDB isn't much of a value added for me, for Octane to require an internet tether to operate.

I agree that the support is not what we would like at this point. Please bear with us as we manage some internal changes. All this business for a small team has caught up with us and we're working on trying to provide the Octane community with the support and products that you deserve.

I cannot comment about the server status at the moment, but I fear that it may be more than a few hours.

I can understand this one time, but this absolutely has to be ironed out asap. If you want to sell this sort of licensing system you can't have the drawbacks that all the detractors had been screaming about. Me, I'm fine with it, I understand piracy is a major problem, but right now I have a deadline tomorrow morning and I'm having to go back to my old CPU renderer (which I luckily still have access to) otherwise I'd be screwed.

Also remember that the 1.022 beta is still functional without the server log-in necessary. While it is not optimum as users have grown to get used to 2.3 beta features, hopefully it can help you get the work done for your client.

I know that Octane is very useful in a production environment but I'd like to point out that Refractive Software has listed the following when using the 2.3 betas:

This release is therefore recommended to be used for any professional applications where time is crucial, use at your own risk. For critical work, please use 2.2b stable.
