Hey,

I was wondering, if there was a way to use the vray material converter without having vray installed?

I used to work with a vray demo that was permanent for 3dsmax 2017, but now my 2017-license expired, so I can't open it anymore. The new vray demo for 2019 isn't permament, so now I don't know how to convert vray materials anymore. Does anyone know a workaround for that? There are so many 3d models with vray materials .... :(

Thanks in advance for your answers,
Greetings :)

Hi,
I don't think it's possible, as 3dsmax replaces all the custom data from unknown / unavailable plugins by dummy objects / materials. when the scene is loaded..

And do you think this is any good? so do we have to own Vray license just in order to convert Vray materials? why Otoy is not addressingthe issue of converting materials properly? Corona has his own converter and so the other one.. and it works without a glitch... enough said.. there are loads of models out there and also companies that require you to render using their pre-made objects or whatever the model is coming from Vray ( at least )

Hi justix,
Corona doesn't convert Vray material without Vray license.
Corona shader is Vray like, this helps to convert without issue.

my recent experience with converting from vray was not good at all...comparing to converting it with demo... I know that Corona shader is basically close to Vray but still no Corona Converter to say is out there for Octane...

Try loading a vray scene without vray - take a look at materials - they are all black - no info to convert from..
..also yeahwhy no corona converter?

Hi acc24ex,
it makes sense, it doesn't depend of Octane, 3dsMax cannot open Vray files if Vray is not installed.
