Ah hey all, sorry for the newb question here, but which one do I install for Maya 2018.6? (I'll upgrade to 2019 when Autodesk releases their next update)

OctaneRender_VR_for_Maya_4.04_-_13.45
or
OctaneRender_VR_for_Maya_2018.1.3_-_14.36

I would think 14.36 is newer but they appear to have the same release date/time. Also i'm confused about the difference between Maya 4.04 and Maya 2018.1.3. I know they refer to the Octane standalone or the engine, but the version numbering system is so different!

Thanks all,

No response because my question is goofy or?

Are you just supposed to install both? Maybe one is stand-alone and other is the actual Maya plug?

Hi lagauche,

We recommend installing the latest OctaneRender_VR_for_Maya_2018.1.3_-_14.36 since you are about to upgrade to 2019. Also, it supports Ornatrix.. :)

Cheers

This has confused me as well. For my understanding, V4 is the obsolete version path going forward right? Like, after V4, OTOY has switched over to naming the versions based on the year naming convention and there will never be a V5, correct?
Intel i7-3930K, 64gb RAM, Asus X79 Deluxe mobo, 2x EVGA 780 6gb (for rendering), 1x PNY quaddro k4000 (for display)
Windows 8.1 x64, Maya 2014, Octane Render v2

Hi itsallgoode9,

You are right. :)
Technically, Octane render 2018.0.1 is V5, as you can see it from Octane engine log button under the Additional tab.

Cool, thanks BK. I haven't been paying attention to the upgrades lately because I've been in the middle of projects but about to upgrade, so I wanted to double check.
