I'm doing a drinks render and I have a carton & bottle sitting on a reflective black floor plane. Behind the carton and bottle there is another wall plane, lit by an octane light with a spotlight gobo in the distribution slot.

For some reason the bottom of the carton is picking up the light along it's bottom edge. The only way I can get rid of it is too intersect the carton with the floor plane.

I can fix this in post but just wondering what's causing it?

Do you have some kind of refractive layer on top of your carton shader?

My go-to process for this kind of problem is to simplify the scene as much as possible while keeping the odd behavior. You should be able to quickly narrow down the range of potential culprits by swapping out the primary elements with more generic ones, one at a time.

And of course, posting an example scene that demonstrates the behavior will probably get you an answer quickly.

I've discovered it's caused by Octane's usual problems with displacement. The carton material has some text on it that has a small displacement.
