Yes, of course network traffic and capacity will affect the speed of the render. It won't affect the speed of raw number crunching on each node, but it can have a significant impact on how quickly each node receives the data it needs to begin rendering, as well as how quickly each node can send the results back to the master machine. The more nodes you use, the more bandwidth you need.
Your internet connection, though, assuming you are rendering over a LAN and not using some kind of VPN over the internet to render on remote hardware, shouldn't have any impact on render speed.
