Hello and congrats on the increased development speed!
I have to agree with many of the previous customers comments though.
I too feel quite disappointed about the short blip that Octane 4 was on the time line.
The quick switch to new version names seems just like an arbitrary excuse to introduce the new licensing system to me.
For example, it was promised that Octane 4 would be able to utilize houdini attributes.
But this essential feature got pushed to the 2018/19 version.
Also the offline licensing was said to come back...
After the rather bad experience with the promised features and delivery dates in my years of octane usage I do not feel comfortable with a big upfront payment.
Having said that, I still like using Octane, but am unsure about the offering.
So let me see if I got it right:
As a current Octane 4 standalone and houdini plugin owner, who wants to use the latest Octane on a machine with two cards, my best option would be, to rent it per "all access" for round about 200$ annually.
If I extend the renting period to three years in total, I would be able to use the version of 2022 continuously.
If I stop the subscription in 2020 or 2021, it will revert back to the relatively obsolete version 4!
If I purchase an additional USB dongle, I could use which ever version I am allowed online offline as well,
just without the cloud-based features right?
Best regards
Stefan
