What is the best way to deal with a Zdepth pass in AE? All I seem to get is black when I have Octane write out the pass from Cinema. If I save the pass from the picture buffer, I get an alpha, but otherwise the image is all white.

In Cinema, I can use the filter to dial in my settings for the pass, but I cannot seem to replicate the same behavior in AE with files saved by Octane. I am sure it's just me, but I really need to get a handle on this.

Thanks!

Is it fast? Oh, yeah!

OK, I seem to have found the issue: if I save the rendered files from the picture buffer, I get the z depth pass when I adjust the black point using XtracTOR. However, the file that was saved directly from Octane has no (apparent) image data, thus the black frames. I believe there may be a bug in the compression algorithm for the frames, as the file sizes for the Octane-saved files are very small in comparison to the picture buffer-saved files. Either that, or AE cannot understand the compression (RLE)...
