Currrently rendering a scene with 400 megs of textures and the file weighting around 110 megs
time per frame in a single 4 gpu computer is around 29 secs

time per frame with 3 nodes ( 4 GPU per node) 20 seconds
it takes almost 70% of the rendering time in the master machine to update the rest of the nodes.

is this normal?

I can provide you the file if you need me to

please let me know.

It is a slow network problem. The way we fixed it is we bought 10 gigabit netgear switch and 10 gigabit intel x540 t2 cards. So we connected the master with 10 gigabit network card and slaves to the switch. The router was also connected to the switch for the internet.
The problem is 1 gigabit network from the master is not enough to send so much data to all slaves. Now our slaves start rendering about 2-3 seconds after master begins rendering.
