Hey guys and girls,

I'm fairly new to Octane for C4D but I have quite a bit of experience with various other software and renderers. There is however something that still escapes me with Octane - The variation / MultiMap shader.

Besides the native Multi Shader (which is not pleasant to work with in the Octane Node Editor), is there any sort of way to scatter multiple maps on random polygons?

I'm pretty much referring to the functionality of the Variation shader :)

Thanks! :geek:

Hi,
you need ti use an Octane Gradient node with the Random Colo node, or in Complex mode, to be able to use any kind of texture node instead of simple colors.
You can also use the Random Color node in the Power pin of a Texture node to have variations over clones with only one texture.
Please, have a look at the example scenes:

Hi,
is it possible to randomize a color on objects with the same materials but not instances ?

Grazie

Ciao Alrssandro,
you can choose random colors in the Gradient node, and use the Instance Range node:

Sorry for my late response, got a little busy :) Thanks for taking the time to respond, I appreciate it!

So from my understanding your solution works on clones. What if I'd like to have a different texture for each polygon, like a tree with leafs. Any suggestions for that perhaps?

Thanks!

Hi,
I think you need to split the leaves in different objects with random selections, to make it works.
