Hi everyone,
we're having a bit of an issue using the slide modifier in Max. We quite often use this to animate objects in or out, and we've been using Octane for years without problems.
Now however, when we use an animated slice to reveal an object, the object doesn't appear in the render/the live viewer at all. We're on 4.01.01.
It does appear if you open the live viewer past the first few frames but not if you play it/render it from the beginning.
It does appear if at the start of the slicing movement, a part of the object is already visible.
It does not appear if your slice starts with none of the object visible. Unfortunately this is exactly what we need. I've noticed this issue for a while now and am not sure with which Octane version exactly it started, but it definitely didn't use to be like this before. This is a huge problem as we're at the end of a project and ready to render but running into this issue.
Has anyone come across this and has any suggestions on how we can solve this?
Edited to add: The last version where sliced objects appear is 3.07. From 3.08 on it doesn't work anymore. Unfortunately we need the denoiser & metallic materials so cannot downgrade to 3.07.

Hi designandcode,
workaround: open Octane viewport, slides into the animation then press "rebuild geometry" icon (next to AF icon).

Hi Paride, thanks, that works to see it in the live viewer - but we are actually going to have to render multiple scenes that have hundreds of frames and can't really do that through the live viewer frame by frame.paride4331 wrote:Hi designandcode,

Yes I am having issues. When I render this scene through the 3ds Max Render dialogue it comes up empty, without my sliced object.paride4331 wrote:Hi designandcode,

If anyone else ever has this problem and wants to render through the Max Backburner:
We ended up splitting each scene into multiple backburner jobs, each job beginning at the very first frame the sliced object started to become visible. That worked ok. Using the same backburner job but specifying frame sequences didn't work.

If you're able to upgrade, it's now been fixed in the v4.02 - 6.13 version - tested it on Friday and it works! =)thekwen wrote:Same issue here with slice modifier.
If rendering doesn't begin to the first animated slice frame the object isn't rendered and i'm still under v3 ...
Big issue, i hope at least it will be corrected also for v3 ...
