So I should just go with whatever one looks sexy, FPF?

YES! If it looks sexy, it will feel sexy, and thus render way sexier.. which, in my sexiest opinion, is better.

OK, my machine doesn't need to be sexy, just needs to render loads of stuff...
So back to original question -
a. replace board/cpu (if so, what stable 7 pcie options do I have with either i7, i9 or AMD?)
b. replace xeons maybe for higher frequency? - I haven't looked into that
c. build new box maybe based on threadripper - as far as I can tell, there are only 4 gpu boards for that - so maybe 4 2080 ti?
d. other?
Any insight that doesn't involve looks?
