I don't know if it's a mac only issue but I can't attach anything to the transmition node of a diffuse material.

Ok had another error creep in.Thought you need to see the attached.I was trying to right click and delete one of the material nodes when it happened. It has only happened once so far.
CPU:-AMD 1055T 6 core, Motherboard:-Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 AM3+, Gigabyte GTX 460-1GB, RAM:-8GB Kingston hyper X Genesis DDR3 1600Mhz D/Ch, Hard Disk:-500GB samsung F3 , OS:-Win7 64bit
Ahh, that makes sense.lixai wrote:@grimm you need to double click on the material name in the graph editor, a new tab will open up with all the normal settings. (you will be able to uncheck smooth)

As mentioned previously I also have the vertical lines bug:
Also note the shading artifacts on the right side of the ball.
If I set the resolution to 980x512 instead, the lines are barely visible: If I render with just one GTX 460, only the right line is visible.
It's an empty scene showing the material preview with just one diffuse material at default settings. Also note the shading artifacts on the right side of the ball.

sorry,I'm a donkey, I was trying to connect a diffuse material node instead of a texture nodebepeg4d wrote:I don't know if it's a mac only issue but I can't attach anything to the transmition node of a diffuse material.

Installing the Latest CUDA Driver (seemingly integrated in with an 'unsigned - continue anyway' gtx 260 driver *260.61*) did not resolve my crashes. Anytime I rework my base model obj export with new Octane produced textures all seems well. Once it is saved, though, It can never be reopened again without an immediate crash-out (report given earlier in this thread). Any Ideas into this?
BTW - I'm always hesitant in opting to download newer drivers from NVIDIA, because I've Rarely experienced them to work worth a damn - there's always something that get's entirely messed up after the restart. Like right now, what used to take less than 2 seconds starting Autocad, now takes several minutes before it appears. 99.9% positive it's a result of installing the new driver. Is there an option to keep one's original card driver while only updating the CUDA part? I will suffer this a while longer before resorting back to the stock driver.
Actually - To be specific, It only results to a bad experience whenever I install any of the 200 series of drivers. the 197's 195's etc. have never given me any problems. (Bottom Image) The last one to give me problems was a 209.11 version. I don't get NVIDIA's Driver classifications. And Yes, this one was the recommended one after defining what card and OS I use.
Update: Now, since the new cuda install even the Trench Sample give's an error - this is a new one... (Top Image)

That eyeball avatar is too much...
Just reporting a small UI issue -see pic. Geometry use is not reporting over 1gb in the Account Preferences panel even though the graph looks right and the viewport figure is I presume correct.
btw in this experiment I found Blender 32bit with its 1.7gb practical limit wouldnt make much more than about a 8m poly .obj file. Of course this isnt an issue with 64bit but it just happened to be a 32bit pc where the blend was. Importing this file into Win764bit it used up all 8gb and paged some to the disk however it did get into Octane after a short wait.
I upped the res size after this screenie to 3600x3600 and its taking 1769mb which is just a little short of the 1792 max allowing for the reserve space. All good so far with my new 460.

8Eggar8,
Drivers 260.xx are cuda 3.2 I think.
While cuda is supposed to be backward compatible Octane hasnt been developed with it and it may have issues.
The 197.xx are cuda 3.0 and suitable for the Demo but not the latest commercial beta.
258.96 should work well with pre2.3v5 - its cuda 3.1

I suggest you uninstall the driver(s) you have and use a cleaner before installing just 258.96.
The Toolkit isnt needed for Windows - just the driver which includes cuda with it.
Dont mix and match things. You need the correct driver but Octane still may have an issue with your .ocs. It is the case that .ocs are not compatible between all Octane beta versions. That may not be the issue here though but I mention it in passing.

I think some drivers came with an extra performance driver optimised for Autocad make sure you uninstall that too from the Add/Remove programs list if you have it and it doesnt uninstall with the rest.
HTH
