I've finally added a second card to my system and I'm not sure I'm getting what I expected.

This is what I had before and after, plus different tests I've done.

1. GTX 1070 (1,920 cuda cores)
OctaneBench 3 result: 121
my render frame test: 44seg

2.GTX 1070 + GTX 1080 TI (3,584 cuda cores)
OctaneBench 3 result: 305
my render frame test: 21seg

So I'm getting about a 100% speed increase which is great but I thought I would get that by adding another GTX 1070 -the same card as I originally had.

I thank in advance any help/info I get about this subject.

Try a scene that renders longer. These 44 / 21 seconds contain the times for preparing the scene and saving it and so on. They don't change because you got another card - they are not reliant on GPUs.

As said you should compare just render times. See whole time statistics in Console window.
