Hi everyone! This is my first post in the forum :geek:

I have an Asus GTX 1080Ti 11GB GDDR5 and i´m looking for buying an Asus GTX 1070Ti 8GB GDDR5 for lower the render time. The point is I am not sure if it is a good idea. I mean, Will the 1070 improve my 1080? Or just add a little more power instead of having for example 2 x 1070? I would like to buy a new 1080 Ti but my budget is not that high right now .

Thanks a lot guys! :)

Hi Cabezashh,
If the power supply is sufficient, one GPU can be dedicated to the OS display while two or more GPUs can be used for rendering.
For the smoothest user experience with OctaneRender, it is recommended to dedicate one GPU for the display and OS to avoid slow and jerky interaction and navigation.
The dedicated video card could be a cheap, low-power card since it will not be used for rendering and it should be unticked (switched off) in CUDA devices in the Device Manager/Preferences.
Just like in a multi-GPU setup, it is best to have the GPU’s match in model and VRAM size. This allows multi-GPU rendering but the OS interface may still be slowed as all the GPU processing power is dedicated to the rendering process. The amount of RAM available to OctaneRender is not equal to the sum of the RAM on the existing number of GPUs, but it is restricted to the GPU with the smallest amount of RAM. It is recommended that you disable GPUs that don’t have enough RAM to allow for rendering large scenes that can fit in the RAM of the remaining GPU.

Thanks for the quick answer Paride4331. So it is not worth to buy the 1070 because it should be disabled for rendering or if it is enabled would get slower the 1080, isnt it? I dont mind the jerky interaction and navigation because when I render, I dont do anything else so when it is done I work again. So the best thing to do is to get two equal graphic cards to work together?
I am a bit lost about hardware and specs, just want to render faster! :D

Hi Cabezashh,
using 1080 TI and 1070 together, you will have only 8 GB Vram available.
Moreover if you use windows 10, you will lose about 20% VRam all of your GTXs.
A best choice would be to use Windows 7, have a low-cost graphics card for monitors and OS, then buy another 1080TI.
I recommend checking if your motherboard has necessary PCI slots and your PSU has Watt enough.

ok, thanks a lot for the information, that clarified me lots of doubts I had. So I will save money for a bit and then buy another 1080 Ti.

Thanks a lot mate! :)
