extremely urgent problem - is it Octane?

I have had a recurring problem with Octane and c4d for a while but today it's preventing me getting any work done. Whenever I am building any material, if I plug an image or bitmap node in anywhere, when I click on the image I want in the finder window that pops up, c4d freezes and I have to restart.

I've tried throwing out the c4d prefs, restarting the machine, and sometimes that works, but today it's just happening every time and the problem won't go away.

Has anyone come across this and can they tell me how to fix it? I have a massive deadline and I'm losing hours of work time to this.

It must be an Octane problem, it doesn't happen in any other renderer.

Aaargh - I think it's the bane of my life - Open GL Previews, if I turn that off it doesn't happen.

Can I fix it and have OPenGL previews?
