EXR & Whut!?
Moderator: face_off
Hi can someone explain to me why Octane for Modo has an extremely limited number of options for exporting? And where can I learn more about the EXR format. I know it's probably the best possible file to be using for rendering, but I am new to Octane for Modo and have never had my hand forced to using anything other than PSD's.
Thanks for anyone who can help or point me in the right direction

The export options are the same as Octane Standalone, which are PNG and EXR.
Thanks

If you use Photoshop, grab the free proexr plugin.

It will allow you to load multilayered EXRs

Try the manual at https://docs.otoy.com/ModoH/ModoPluginM ... Passes.htm or search the Octane Standalone manual for Render Passes, where there is an extensive explanation.

Thanks Paul. I'll look in the standalone documentation. As this just lists every available render pass, and does not offer any techniques or practices other than 'to activate the diffuse pass, click on the diffuse pass'.
I am coming over from Octane for LightWave and to be honest, even though the Otoy Modo documents are better, they are far from satisfying. Most of the techniques I've benefited from with Octane have come from YouTube videos or tutorials for C4D & Octane.
Have you ever considered making a great resource for Octane users right here, on otoy.com? Possibly for Octane 4.0?
