At any point after the file has had a material-based OTL enter the mat network, trying to create a node inside results in a hang and then immediate crash, without fail.

Things I have tried, and their results after trying to create a node inside the "Octane Material Builder":
• Creating an OTL out of the Octane Material Builder node - CRASH
• Creating an OTL out of a subnetwork of "loose" Octane nodes - CRASH
• Creating a material OTL with no Octane nodes involved - CRASH
• Adding a previously created material OTL to the /mat context - CRASH
• Adding a material OTL and then removing it from the network - CRASH
• Creating a geometry OTL - OKAY

I'm on Windows 10 using Houdini 17.0.352, using the Octane plugin build 4.00.0.15 RC5
GTX 1080Ti 11GB (3x), Water-cooled
Intel i7-5820K 6-core @ 3.3GHz

Hi,

Let me investigate this issue. I've seen reports about this issue even related to Mantra or other renderers, so perhaps there is an issue in this first build of Houdini 17.0.

So you say that this happens in any scene, even in a new one, right? Can you please share your houdini.env configuration file to try to reproduce the problem using your same installation paths?

Thanks,
-Juanjo

Sorry for the delay. Interesting that you've heard about this with other software too.

Here's my .env after the beginning comments:

Code: Select all

HOUDINI_DSO_ERROR = 2

TOOLS = /tools/houdini
OCTANE = $TOOLS/octane
MOPS = $TOOLS/MOPS
SHNOPS = $TOOLS/SHNOPs

HOUDINI_OTLSCAN_PATH = $MOPS/otls;$SHNOPS/otls;@/otls

PATH = $PATH;C:/ProgramData/Redshift/bin;$OCTANE/bin;

HOUDINI_PATH = $TOOLS;$OCTANE;&

Have you tried the latest plugin build 4.00.0.16? This problem should be fixed on it, although there are several other issues with the Houdini 17 plugin that I'm fixing just now for the next plugin build.

Great! There are also some new H17 related fixes for the next plugin build.

Thanks,
