Two 460s 768MB RAM or one 460 with 2GB (for the same $)?

Thanks, I just hope my PSU can handle it ;] I'm going to find out tomorrow.
By the way, is the SSS trick still available? I remember it was some sort of a bug, but the effect was really nice. I could use it throughout my entire animation.

I must say i am amazed. I have just started to test Octane demo with the 460 and it is everything i dreamed it would be and more ;] Both hardware and software. The card is quiet and cool, and i already love Octane. The transmission channel for diffuse materials is very cool. You can expect a purchase from me very soon.

Well, if you like the demo (which is outdated), you'll really like the newest pre2.3v4 and the things that are coming...

I am certain of it. I have been rendering a 200 frames animation in Mental Ray for more than a week, 30 minutes per frame so already the "outdated" demo seems like jumping 10 years ahead. I expect nothing but greatness from Octane.

One more thing. Does the amount of system RAM influence the GPU's (and Octane's) performance? I mean can it be a bottleneck? I've just read something like that somewhere on some forum.

Yes, currently Octane eats a lot of system ram, also. It has been pointed out on the forums that somewhere around 6-8GB is recommended to work comfortably (considering that you load also textures into vram, not only polygons). I haven't run into any barriers yet (6GB system ram), but I have mainly worked with scenes around 1mio polys.
But the devs said that this segment will come under optimisation.
