The scene it's an a simple architectonic interior that use only 1.351Gb of VRam on 3.08.2-R3 version.
The render start normally but after a few calculated samples C4D crashes!

Thank you Aoktar!
Please try different drivers if you're hesitating to share any scenes. And If it's not crashing on 3.08.3 so that's a renderer problem, not plugin.
Ok, now I'll try with an another scene that I could share. At the moment I'm working with the Nvidia Cuda driver 387.178 version because the last cudadriver_396.148 require an GPU driver update that don't exist...

Hey Ahmet!

Do you have X-Particles Early Access by chance? I have a couple issues and I'm not sure if it's X-Particles or Octane causing the issue.

Issue #1 is that I can't seem to apply black body emission to either Sweep or Octane Hair when using it with X-Particles trails. I can apply the material and it will actually work for diffuse and reflection etc but if I turn on Blackbody Emission for the shader, instead of the trail lighting up, it just turns black. Not sure if it's something I'm doing or if it's a bug but this is the result I get (the trails should look the same as the "heads"):
CINEMA 4D_2018-08-16_13-50-03.png
Issue #2 can also be seen in the same image in the top left corner. Something is causing Octane to hang. In the corner it says "Tri:38K Nodes: 340 Updating... 4". I then can't close Octane as it says I have to "wait for the update process to finish" so I have to close Cinema 4D and restart but then I get the same problem again fairly quickly.

The render itself will still continue even though it gets stuck updating and I can no longer move the viewport. I wonder if it's having issues updating because it's struggling to keep up with the changes in particle geometry?

Here's a scene file anyway and if you don't have X-Particles let me know and I will see if I can bake it out as alembic or something and send another wetransfer (the forum won't allow C4D project file attachments for some reason):

Hey guys if u experience crashes and render failures it might be due to older processors lacking AVX instructions. its mentioned in the standalone thread and there should be a a hot fix coming

It's here Guy!

Hi ahmet! im not sure im understanding...

Sorry! I'm confused by reading as "Shadow catcher". Yes It seems like missing! I'm doing several revisions and I'll give another build with fix of that too!

Just to provide an update on my last post, it seems to be having the problem when it gets to around 30 - 40 frames of the particle sim so I thought it might be out of core. I tried setting it from 4GB to 8GB but still had the same issue. I'll try caching it to see if I still get the same problem.

Thanks again :)

Hi Aoktar,

I have made a simple scene but the problem persist..
I think the problem is caused by the denoiser because the crash happens exactly when the denoise should start!

I send you the link to download the scene:

Thank you!

One more update (sorry - just trying to provide as much useful info as possible):

So I've tried rendering the scene in Octane 3.08 and the IPR doesn't get stuck on "updating" - it renders fine.

A couple things I noticed along the way are, Octane hair doesn't crash the IPR when rendering X-Particles Trails in v4 - only using the Sweep object to render the trails causes the crash.

The other thing I managed to work out was the problem with the trails not rendering with Emission. It turns out that the normals are being generated on the inside of the trails, not the outside. That's easily fixable for the Sweep by just selecting "flip normals" (apart from it still crashing in v4) but I can't seem to find a way to reverse the normals when rendering the trails with Octane Hair. I expect this is because it's not true geometry (as in it's happening on the GPU at render time) so I'm not sure how to fix that issue.

Again - apologies for the information overload, I hope that this helps you in some way and if you can think of any way I can fix either of these issues that would be awesome :)

Cheers!

Yeah, C4D quits instantly on launch with this latest version. R19.1 on MacOS 10.13.6. I have the latest Nvidia CUDA driver (396.148) so nothing untoward there.

I re-downlaoded and, same again – instant crash on boot up.

The previous 4.0 version worked fine and the new 3.08.3 works fine.

Crash log attached.
