You can have unity generate them by selecting the oprah model and toggle Generate Lightmap Uvs.
Sydney_Opera_House.skp -> Model -> Generate Lightmap UVs
Thanks Chris
So I selected the model, checked Generate Lightmap UVs, then tried to bake with the PBR Lightmapper again and it all goes black like so:

If i use normal Unity Lightmapping, Lighting > Scene > Generate Lighting, it gives a full bake but quality not as good as you can see here:

Seems perhaps this might indicate the UVs are working... ?

Any ideas what's going wrong / how i may be able to solve?
Appreciate your assistance.

You might need to reload the scene as there is no way for Octane for Unity to detect mesh changes. When you reload it Octane should have the generated UVs.

Thanks for the suggestion.

So i started from scratch with a new scene but kept getting the license error with 2018.2.2f and 2018.2.1f:

Octane license (UNITY) activation result: Standalone license invalid
UnityEngine.Debug:LogError(Object)
OctaneUnity.PluginController:LogErrorCallback(String)
System.Object:wrapper_native_00007FFE81F669D0()
Octane.DLL:License_Activate()
Octane.License:Activate()
OctaneUnity.PluginController:ActivateLicense()
OctaneUnity.PluginController:Init()
OctaneUnity.<>c:<GetTierDataFromServer>b__29_0(AuthCodeResponse)
UnityEditor.AsyncHTTPClient:Done(State, Int32)

Should Octane work with these versions?

The saga continues... :D

Update re license issues. Thought it may be on the OTOY web end so logged in at https://account.otoy.com and deleted the Unity linked account.
Still change.. still fails.

So a new unity account should work right?
Wrong. Created new unity email, then a new Unity project, loaded the OTOY installer scene, Load Octane and...

Anyone else had these problems or managed a solution?

Quick update, it's crashing mid-way through the Octane PBR lightmapping process.

Has anyone managed to get global baking with OTOY working with Unity?

Tried twice to record with windows xbox game mode but annoying the crash stops it. So in the video you can't see the error.
There's no text, just a unity icon with a red ! and then it says something like "No solution could be found" and it jumps to the crash report.

Tried 2018.1.08f and 2018.2.2f1 and both crashed. Here's a video what i did to setup the project

I am having the same issue. I tried it even on a simple scene consisting of a teapot and plane - and baking still crashed.

We found the crash issue. Apparently there was a crash with the baking camera.
We will be uploading a new build shortly.

So been looking at octane renders with glass and metal (which are awesome) and was wondering about upscaling / augmenting the quality of older models.

If your goal is to take a basic model (like the Sketchup opera house or any 3d model file) and then make it look as beautiful as possible with Octane, would you:

1) just bake with global lightmapper (as this post has been about);
2) replace each texture with an Octane texture then bake (more timely but could be better – see the PBR Viewport in images above, it's good but not the highest quality glass, etc I've seen from other #octane work); or
3) use some other approach (if this, what and how?) – ?

Thanks!

I take you are interested in rendering images or animations of these models?

Rendering glass and metal in octane will yield much better results than doing the same in unity.
You should be able to do this by using the Octane material override. Often it is possible to just replace the specific materials you need to change.
In general I would say that rendering images and animation with octane ends in better results.

For realtime 3D model viewing, baking is recommended.
