We would start exposing the Diffuse, Specular, Normals etc.. as soon as the plugin is stable to simplify the workflow. Please try this step for now.. !!!p3taoctane wrote:Re the node editor
Yes I can middle mouse drag nodes i need into the node editor but the materials do not show the nodes I want to drag into like yours do.
So I have to go to input ... other... then select it... too many steps
Thanks

Thanks I tried this technique in 3.08.1 non beta and it worked.
That helps.
Having them all available by default would be cool as you are planning. Building materials in the standalone is a dream so the closer to that the better from my perspective though I know Maya will make it much harder to be so clean.
Thanks
Peter

Hiya, p3taoctane .. Mac version available now in the beta test area.
We have now ORBX material implemented to build materials using Octane Standalone Node editor.Having them all available by default would be cool as you are planning. I think what you mean by that is you can make the materials in the stand alone and import the ORBX file.
That is good. Thanks
Peter

Bikram refers to the new ORBX material node in Maya (red shaderball button in Octane Shelf).p3taoctane wrote:I think what you mean by that is you can make the materials in the stand alone and import the ORBX file.
In this node you can either import the material from an external ORBX or create it from scratch directly in Maya but with Octane Core UI component: This is very nice, IPR update in realtime while creating/editing the octane shadregraph.
But still have some flaws :
- pay attention that what you do in this UI is only saved in the scene when you close the window.
- This octane UI node-graph doesn't stay on top of the Maya UI when you clic outside, so it's easy to loose this window hidden behind the main Maya window.. (so also forgeting to close it to validate the change)
- You can't create an ORBX material node directly from live DB.

Quick play around... I love it. I agree with previous comments.
Its hidden and not only that it has to closed to be set in the hypershade on first creation.
It would be nice to be able to double click on it in the hypershade and it automatically opens in the ORB editor.
It would be super nice if there was a mini preview window for just the material in the orbx editor window that pops up.
Rather than assign it to an object and edit it when its rendering it would be nice to just render the material before assigning it to anything.
I am sure you are working on these things and more... but this to me is a very nice feature.
Thanks

I know that tere are some API issues but is it possible to render particle instancer using new plugin?
Cheers!
Yes, the particle instancer would work with new plugin and as long as the particles are instanced with a poly geo.
cheers
