I wonder - is it possible to install the new experimental v4 of Octane and the v4 max plugin, and then being able to swith between v4 and v3? Or is the very installation of V4 a point of no return in respect to v3? Would be nice to try out the new features in v4, but not if it means that v3 gets "overwritten".

Hi Elden,
as you can read here:
viewtopic.php?f=80&t=68122
Octane V4 is a TEST release with new features implemented, so some issues are expected.
Please note that this release is based on Octane V4 XB3, and is not recommended for production work :
As with all experimental and test releases, please do not use this build for production work, and please note that we still classify this as an experimental release.
We cannot guarantee that scenes saved with this version would be compatible with future releases.
If you want test Octane V4, don't overwrite your Octane V3 file, make a copy.

Thanks, I realize that, but what I'm trying to understand is if you have to reinstall v3 if you wish to revert back to that version, or is it simply a matter of renaming a dll-file or two?

HI Elden,
I suppose reinstalling; V4 has a different SDK compared to V3.
Until V4 SDK will be stable, files saved with V4 may not be compatible between experimental versions released.

This might be useful, or not. I'm a Mac C4D user, but I've been switching back and forth between Octane 3.08.2 and 4.0 without much trouble. I don't know if my experience translates to Windows/Max, but I have both Stand Alone versions installed in my Apps directory. I have two sets of Octane Plugin files that I have to manually swap in the C4D Plugins directory, one for each version. When I launch the plugin within C4D, I just need to go to Octane Settings/Other and point the plugin to the correctly matching Stand Alone executable.

Hope that helps.
