Hi All,
Any time I try to import an HDRI (or png. jpg) image as an environmental map into Blender I get the beachball followed by a blender crash. Was wondering if anyone experienced a similar issue.
This is on OSX 10.13.4, Newest Cuda and Blender Stable build.
No issue when trying it on the same computer running Windows 10.
Thanks
Blender crashing when trying to add hdri environmental map
What version of plugin do you have?
Can you send an example file to check?
I've tried the latest 15.2.4 on OSX 10.12.6 and had no crashes when trying to add env map.

HI J.C
Its pretty odd behavior.
I tried it with Version 14.0, 15.2.3 and 15.2.4. They all crash when trying to load a jpg, HDRI or PNG as an environmental map in the node editor. I've had no issues when importing the same files as an image texture when using the object material node editor.
Made the jump from OSX 10.11.6 directly to 10.13.4 and skipped over 10.12. I 'm newest version of CUDA in anticipation of Version 4. I did not have these issues on 10.11.6.
Also seems specific to the Octane Blender build within 10.13.4. When in the node editor of the regular version of Blender I have no issue importing the environmental image. When I try it with the octane build and have Octane Server Off and select cycles as my main renderer the octane build crashes in the node editor.

Can you record a video while doing so. I don really get when it crashes.

Hi J.C.
Uploaded a quick video. As soon as I double click to load the HDR texture I get beach ball of death. Blender doesn't outright close but it becomes unresponsive then I have to force quit it.
I tested an older OS build I had on another drive. Same problem on 10.13.2. Looks like a High Sierra problem.
Thanks

Quick update,
Tested 15.2.4 environmental map import on a couple different computers running different Mac operating systems.
10.11.6 - No issue
10.12.6 - No issue
10.13.2 - Crash
10.13.4 - Crash
Also Its not just the node editor where I have issues. When I try to load an image texture in the texture creation properties panel it also crashes.
Seems to be a High Sierra issue. Has anyone had success importing an environmental map in High Sierra?

Hi jerzy,
It seems like a freezing issue rather than an immediately crash. (which might be worse due to no crash logs generation..)
Please try to open your blender with console and check whether there is a crash log or any helpful information.
$cd [your blender folder]
$ ./blender.app/Contents/MacOS/blender
Read prefs: /Users/DrawFun/Library/Application Support/Blender/2.79/config/userpref.blend
found bundled python: /Users/DrawFun/Downloads/OctaneRender_for_Blender_OSX_15_2_5/blender.app/Contents/Resources/2.79/python
Read blend: /Users/DrawFun/Downloads/15.2.4/livedb_crash.blend
Writing: /tmp/livedb_crash.crash.txt
Segmentation fault: 11
Cheers,
DrawFun

HI DrawFun.
Sorry for the delay.
Launched Blender using console and no luck. As soon as I load the env map Blender freezes and I have to force quit. This is all I get.

It seems that the following is missing in console when I force quit.

This happens on two separate computers running different versions of High Sierra. Has anyone at Otoy ben able to successfully load an env map using High Sierra?
Thanks again
