Hi all,

I have 5 x 780Ti's on an Amfeltec PCI extender and am frequently running into memory problems. Any recommendations on an upgrade path that doesn't break the bank?

Cheers

hi, Balt,

with 5x You should be scoring between 400 to 500 in OctaneBench while having 3GB of VRAM.

pair of properly cooled 1080ti would give You 400+ in OctaneBench & 11GB of VRAM.
4x 1070 would give You a bit more in OB, but also less VRAM.

In general I would advice to get less but ore powerful cards & keep them for few years. However for some 1070/1070ti give more speed for the same amount of money (given You have where to place them) & if less VRAM is not an issue, then why not.

A lot depends on Your own needs - long term upgrade plans & other bits like physical space, portability, etc.

Interesting advice, thanks! I'm surprised we're still in the 1080 generation - I've been away from this for a little over year when the 1080 was just released, it seems the 780 and onwards generations came much quicker. I'd have expected 1280 or higher generation wise by now... :-) possibly something new in the pipeline coming soon?

Cheers

1180 supposedly before august of this year, according to the latest rumors since Nvidia is giving a keynote about a (already released by then, we assume) "Next Generation Mainstream GPU" at Hot Chips on August 20.

Maybe you will not have memory issue with Octane 4 Out of Core feature…

I might hold off on buying new GPUs for now because the new out of core feature is coming in octane 4 which might fix the issue, either that or wait for the new gtx 1180 rumored to be coming out within the next few months
