you should have a decent environment and use pathtracing instead of directlighting for a cofrrect and more real result...

errr they are pathtracing (can't remember about the first one but the second one is)
Pathtracing produced a huge amount of fireflies so I had to despekle it with GIMP. Here is the original
It seems I did not used daylight though

I would either remove the wood in the fireplaces altogether or give them a better material, as they look very fake and bring down the whole scene.
